About Textured Color
Most print shops sell one image at a time and leave the hard part to you: what hangs next to it, how big, and how high. We do that part. You tell us about your wall and the mood you want, and we hang a set of works that belong together.
How a wall gets curated
Every work in the shop has a measured palette: its five main colors, and how light, saturated and warm it reads overall. The curator starts with an anchor piece that suits your mood, then adds works whose colors sit close to it and to each other.
Each piece gets a real size from the sizes that work can print. The group fills roughly two thirds of the wall's width, with even gaps between frames, and its center sits at eye level, 57 inches from the floor, when the wall is tall enough. A small wall gets three works; a long one can take ten.
The same wall and mood always give the same set, so a link to it can be shared. Shuffle gives you a different one.
Where the art comes from
Every work comes from the open access programs of the Art Institute of Chicago and The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Both museums release these images under Creative Commons Zero (CC0), which places them in the public domain for anyone to use, including commercially.
We did not make these works and we don't claim to. We choose them, write short notes on why they hold a wall, arrange them, and handle the printing. Each artwork page links to its record at the museum that holds it.
Our size rule
A print can only be as sharp as the scan behind it. We only offer a size if the museum's image delivers at least 150 dots per inch at that size, and if its shape fits the canvas or frame without cropping away more than a sliver of the edge. The curator follows the same rule, which is why some works only ever appear small.
Pillows and throws
Each set suggests two pillows and a throw in solid colors taken from its palette. They are printed to order in the color you see, and kept plain on purpose: a solid color repeats the wall without competing with it.
How prints are made
Orders are printed and shipped in the US by a professional print partner. Canvas prints are stretched on a wood frame. Framed posters are printed on matte paper and set in a black frame. Both arrive ready to hang.
